In these cases deterioration protection is supplied by allowing for a sacrificial density of steel or by taking on a higher quality of steel. If a concrete loaded pipe pile is rusted, a lot of the tons lugging capability of the stack will remain intact due to the concrete, while it will be shed in an empty pipeline stack.
